Independent Living Reimagined

Australia is failing its most vulnerable

That's why Angel Assist has reimagined in-home care

Angel Assist has created a transformative new model of care to help the vulnerable members of our society maintain dignity and independence without leaving the comfort of their own home.  We find Angel Assistants (helpful housemates) who can provide support, companionship and assistance.  By providing free food and board to the Angel Assistant, it is possible to have round-the-clock support without the extreme expense.  If you need additional help, we may even be able to help you obtain significant government grants to help fund the cost of your care.

ABOUT

A new approach to in-home care

The idea behind Angel Assist originated in 2015 when the founder tried to help her family find an alternative to nursing homes for her elderly grandparents.  Having reached their early 80's within their own home, the idea of being separated from one another or moved out of their own home seemed unthinkable.  We created a model of affordable care that ensured 24 hour support and adjusted gradually to their changing needs.  To the very end, we were able to ensure they received the utmost level of care with continual one-on-one support and companionship for minimal expense.

Our mission is to open up this model of care to every vulnerable Australian, ensuring everyone has access to affordable, dignified care.  Our service benefits not just seniors, but any member of the community needing extra support in their daily lives.

WHAT IS AN ANGEL ASSISTANT?

Live-in care companion

An Angel Assistant is effectively a helpful housemate who receives free food and board in return for assistance and companionship.  They provide up to 14 hours of active help per week.*  Angel Assistants are not employees and do not necessarily have training or experience as carers.  They are there to help with everyday life skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and mowing, that may otherwise prevent someone from being able to remain in their own home.  You could think of Angel Assistants like au pairs or demi-pairs for seniors.  By living with you, the Angel Assistant is able to provide companionship and the reassurance of knowing that someone is around at night should anything go wrong.

As with normal housemate arrangements, the Angel Assistant is free to pursue their normal activities outside the home, as long as they abide by predetermined house rules.  The exact types of help they can provide is extremely flexible and will depend on your needs and what you have agreed upon with your Angel Assistant.  Finding the right Angel Assistant therefore requires compatibility on a number of levels including having complementary routines and skillsets.

*The maximum number of hours of active help per week provided by the Angel Assistant will depend on many factors including the locality, the quality of the accommodation, the amount of food, the skills and qualifications of the Angel Assistant and will essentially be determined by negotiation between both parties.

HOW DOES ANGEL ASSIST HELP?

An Innovative Model of Care

Angel Assist helps you live independently in your own home.  By having an Angel Assistant support you with basic living skills, your government funds can be stretched further on more specialised services.  Finding the right Angel Assistant for your needs is critical to ensuring safety and compatibility.

After you register, our national database of Angel Assistants allows us to present you with the finest possible candidates.  We use a specially designed algorithm to quickly filter candidates that meet your requirements in terms of routines, preferences and skillsets.  After conducting phone interviews to prescreen candidates, we present you with the best candidates so you can interview them personally in your own home.  This maximises your compatibility and ensures that you have ultimate agency and confidence over who will be your Angel Assistant.

Once you have chosen your favourite candidates, we conduct a thorough screening process including police checks, background checks and psychometric testing.  We help the chosen Angel Assistant obtain their First Aid Certificate and can arrange specialised modules of training as required.

WHAT IF I NEED MORE HOURS OF CARE?

Alternative Sources of Funds

If you require more support, Angel Assist can guide you on how to structure a complete care regimen to help navigate the complexities of in-home care.  We can also identify and help you access any grants you may be eligible for.

For instance, if you require more than 14 hours of active care per week and your doctor is prepared to support your application, it may be possible for your Angel Assistant to receive the Carer's Payment (subject to eligibility criteria).

We understand that navigating the care system in Australia can be difficult and frustrating.  Call Angel Assist on 1300 717 441 if you have any questions or register now so we can start finding you an Angel Assistant right away.

Assessment of Needs

Maintaining functional independence as long as possible is critical to your well-being.

By conducting a needs assessment, we make sure you are receiving the level of support you need.

Find Angel Assistants

After determining your needs and creating a plan, we find, interview and screen all potential Angel Assistants. We involve you and your family in the interview process to make sure you feel 100% comfortable.

Obtain Funding and Grants

We help determine if you are eligible for potentially thousands of dollars in government grants and can assist you with the application process if needed.
